MISSION & VISION
The National Neon Sign Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
Located in the Heart of Downtown The Dalles, The Museum captures America as seen through the lens of the American Sign Industry.
With 20,000 square feet of electrifying exhibits and interactive displays, the NNSM is dedicated to providing a family friendly, interactive, dynamic and entertaining environment to promote an understanding and appreciation of signage and advertising and the unique role both have played in shaping American History.
From early hand carved and Gold Leaf signs to the first lightbulbs, the introduction of neon and electric signs, to the invention and widespread use of plastics, the Museum’s assets represent one of the largest collections in the world.

– PROGRAM OVERVIEW –

ILLUMINATING HISTORY, CRAFTSMANSHIP AND CULTURE

From the state-of-the-art Theater with digital sound and 20 ft. screen your self-guided or docent led tour through time begins in the History Center, telling the story of the scientists and physicists responsible for the discovery of electricity, the lightbulb and isolation of rare gases.
Three complimentary galleries explain the invention of the first electrode leading to the first neon tubes, the franchising and wide spread use throughout the world, a decade of lawsuits and finally the explosion of neon worldwide through the Depression and up to WWII.
The floating dance floor in the Ballroom whispers stories of bygone days as you stroll through a replica streetscape featuring signs in their natural setting.
Reserve our ballroom, history center or theater for your special event or corporate meetings starting spring 2020. Email today for information and reservations at info@nationalneonsignmuseum.org.
